Charles received an Associates Degree in Math/Science as well as a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration & Carpentry from Rochester Institute of Technology.
He went back to college at night for Architectural Design and received a 4.0 grade point average in it. While at night school he felt that courses from Soil Mechanics to Material Engineering would also help his customers.
After college Charles was hired by a home builder to be their construction supervisor. He ran crews, designed the kitchens, bathrooms, decks, landscaping and all other portions of the homes.
This was not enough to keep Charles busy. He started a property repair business. This business continued during the creation of Floeser Contracting's present days business. Property repair is a large portion of Floeser Contracting business in the winter months. Although not primarily limited to the winter months Floeser Contracting remodels basements, kitchens, bathrooms, and general home renovations.
Charles knows what hard work is and is not afraid of it. He cares about every project he has taken on since 1981.. He has designed and built for over a thousand satisfied customers, hopefully you will be the next one.
Charles V. Floeser is one of a long line of Floeser's that have for generation after generation been builders. It all started in the Black forest in Germany felling trees to make furniture and churches. Later his relatives came to the United States prior to World War II to build churches up and down the Hudson River. His grandfather Adam John Floeser settled in Albany, New York to open a hardware store and make wooden toys and furniture.
His son John Joseph Floeser is Charles V. Floeser's father. John Floeser and uncles were fine craftsman and taught Charles about construction at a very young age, everything from woodworking to slate & cedar roofing.
Charles' godfather Vince Zappella was a mason and taught Charles everything about concrete block and brick foundations to brick and concrete patios. From walks for customers' homes at an early age of 15, to present day patios, his style and design is a perfect match for the Rochester market. Twenty years of experience is used to make projects that Floeser Contracting designs and builds the finest possible. In the past 20 years many other people have started companies imitating and learning from Charles Floeser and Floeser Contracting.
In the summers of Charles' youth his family spent every summer in the Adirondack Mountains. Here is where Charles' interest in building and abilities were put into action. Here he met two men who helped guide his successful future. The first a 92 year old man named Adirondack Ike who had built log homes his entire life. He taught Charles everything there was to know about building log cabins carpentry, fine wood craftsmanship, designing wood furniture, fireplace mantles and cabinets. The second man was Samuel Brookins who had hand built his own home from the trees and stones from his property. The home still stands today as a monument to his greatness. For Sam Brookins carried every stone from the beach up to the woods to make a stone foundation, splitting every stone with a stone hammer so the foundation would be tight and sound. He also felled every tree and milled them into the framing lumber, flooring, beams, siding and every other possible part of the home from the kitchen cabinets to the walls and the toilet seat, much of this taught Charles to respect and care for every project he takes on present day.
Charles learned all he could from these two men about wood and construction. For the next three summers starting at a young age of 13 he started and built a log cabin. He used trees that died the winter before, so that he would not disturb nature he felled. He hand carved and notched them to fit tight to the previous one laid. Modest as it was, Charles used stones he carried from the beach and split for the foundation. A salt box style roof, one window and a door finished the project off handsomely, some three long summers later.
Around the age of 16 he started to do home repairs in his Albany, NY neighborhoods. He was an energetic young man and every neighbor could see that and started hiring him for all types of projects. That is also one of the main reasons that he is well versed in all types of construction. At this young age he got first hand work of slate roofing, lath/plaster, drywall , painting , landscaping, patios, walks, window repair and glass replacement.
